After-school enrichment will be taking on a whole new look beginning January of 2007. As a recipient of a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, we will now be able to include grades 6-8, in addition to grades 1-5, in after-school enrichment programming.

The Titusville YMCA’s Round Two program will be phased out at the end of December. In its place, the Titusville 21st Century Community Learning Center will begin, adding even more quality enrichment components. We welcome the Titusville Area School District and Genesis Family Center as our collaborative partners in this new learning center. Collectively, our organizations will be able to bring after-school programming rich in diversity and quality to meet the needs of students. Credentialed staff to include certified teachers, healthy lifestyles and physical education experts, certified technology professionals, and trained human service specialists are among the many experienced program staff who will be onboard.

The program will be offered from after school to 6:00 PM each day that school is in session in the district. Even more beneficial to parents is that this program will be offered for FREE. The grant has made it possible to cover all costs for the learning center staff and activities. We will also offer transportation home at the end of the program to out-of-town students who will be dropped off at designated areas in their respective towns — details to follow.

The Titusville 21st Century Community Learning Center will run from January to the end of the current school year, and again for the entire school year beginning in September 2007. Grades 1 through 5 will take place at the Titusville YMCA, while grades 6 through 8 will be held at the Middle School. Elementary children at Main Street School will be escorted to the YMCA each day by YMCA staff. Elementary students from Hydetown and Pleasantville will ride a 21st Century Learning Center bus from their school which will bring them directly to the YMCA.

Weekly components for all students will include: homework assistance; math, reading, and science enrichment; social and cultural activities; technology education; nutrition education; daily supper through the CACFP food program; and organized physical education activities. Additionally, Genesis Family Center will administer programs and services for Pre-K and Kindergarten, as well as support services for families of all learning center participants.

Enrollment forms will be in all elementary schools, the middle school, and at the YMCA beginning Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Enrollment by grade is limited, so pick up an enrollment application as soon as possible! Daily attendance is strongly encouraged so each child can benefit from all activities.
